I finally gave in!
Every morning around 5ish, I hear the beautiful adhan (Muslim call to prayer). It is soul-stirring and one of the most real, authentic parts of my experience here. When I first arrived in August, it would wake me up, but I’d fall right back to sleep. I’ve been struggling with this until now—stay up or turn over.
About a few weeks ago, I decided to get up with the adhan, and I haven’t looked back! It’s an hour of the morning to myself, when I can do my morning practice and get right for the day, or at least give it my best shot. I don’t even need my alarm anymore, as I have those beautiful words in my ear at the wee hours, reminding me power is in what you can’t see.
(Update 11/29: I stopped! Sign of some internal resistance. Giving in…for now.)
